Well, I’ve had this book at least 6 months and I’ve really tried to like it. It’s truly just okay. I have perscriptrion for natural healing third edition and absolutely LOVE it, this book just isn’t that great. It does have alphabetical order of symptoms and info about them but the herb formulas and variety needed aren’t handy and at home and really not even usuable. For example making a tincture without measurements of ingredients which I’ve never heard of:

artichoke leaf – yes I have
    asafoetida – what???
    cordyceps – huh?
    Garlic – of course
    Gingseng – yes
    green tea – yes
guggul – I think my son used to say that for Gatorade
    Hawthorn – yes
Ho she wu – I’m not even saying a word
    milk thistle – yes
    red yeast rice – yes

Okay the list goes on and this was for cholesterol. I think this list is crazy – thorough, but crazy. I thought this was going to be like RX for natural healing with only herbs and it’s not quite the same – still in parts (1 and 2) but not as easy to glance at.

Also, may I state that this book is 634 pg book however, it has a referece section from pg 501-611!!!!! That’s a lot of referencing!!

The book does have some good things that were taken from RX for natural healing and perhaps a very small bit of new info but nothing worth buying if you own a good herbal book already.

Bottom line – buy RX for natural healing, or herbal antibiotics by Steven Harrod Buhner (I think he’s got a second edition out now). I’d never buy this book again and only refer to it after my favorite others.

Informative and really helps us to know and use the type of natural herbs and supplements for healing. This book also tells us the potential dangers of some herbs, the proper dosage, and the expected timeframe in which we can expect to see the postitive effects from using them.

If you have any interest at all in herbal medicine, this is a great book to have on hand. Though not as in-depth as you sometimes need, it is a great place to start research.

I’ve studied herbs for years, and have collected many books on the subject, but of them all, Mowreys’ book The Scientific Validation of Herbal Medicine holds a pre-eminent place. Well written, intelligently and solidly researched, this book stands head over shoulders above the plethora of herbal books that derive their information mostly from folklore and anecdotal reports. Mowrey’s book seperates the “wheat from the chaff”. Highly recommended.

BEST Herbal Medicine book!!!!, May 18, 2004

This book is FANTASTIC!!! Go look in the pages and check out how they have their index. Most books’ indexes you go to look up a word like *asthma* and you get page numbers that you go to and hope it’s what you were looking for. In this book you look up asthma in the index and it shows you which herbs and the page numbers! That was worth the price of the book to me! Same with herb listings… you look up the herb and it tells you which ailment it will help and the page number to find it on.

Within the book you will find DETAILED explanations on which herbs to use, how much and how to apply them (i.e. gargling, teas, capsules, etc.)

This book will be my main herbal medicine book for years to come! Out of all my herbal books this one *by far* is the BEST book on herbal medicine that I have in my library! I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone seeking natural alternatives to health!!
